Babar W. Malik

H. E. Babar W. Malik is a former diplomat who worked in the Foreign Service of Pakistan for more than 39 years, serving as Pakistan's ambassador to Australia and Turkmenistan.

Malik was born in Lahore and educated at St. Anthony's High School and Aitchison College. Later, he received an MA in English Literature from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.

As a diplomat, Malik was posted to the USA, Morocco, Mexico, France, Egypt, Russia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Malik comes from an old prominent and aristocratic family of Lahore. His Excellency's relatives include Malik Ghulam Muhammad,

the 3rd Governor General of Pakistan and the first Lord Mayor of Lahore. They are descendants of Malik Ayaz and during Ranjit Singh's rule, were elevated to royalty, with Shaikh Elahi

Bakhsh acting as one of his top generals. The Malik's had been important during the late 19th century, they held Shell Oil and PEL contracts in the Asian Sub-continent with an

estimated family fortune of nearly $1 billion.
